CONDOR

The final workshop of the Condor project took place last week, on 16 and 17 February, in Horta, Azores. The meeting was organized to assess the results of the project which will end in April 2011. Condor workshop brought together researchers, students and technicians from the Department of Oceanography and Fisheries of the University of the Azores, the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Fisheries Research of Lisbon and the Institute of Marine Research in Norway and counted with the participation of representatives of local government and associations of stakeholders .

The final workshop of the CONDOR project will be held at Hotel do Canal, in Horta, Faial, on 16-17 February 2011.

Condor observatory is now on Google Ocean. You can find short stories about the research that is being conducted on the observatory on the Explore the Ocean layer, in Google Earth.

The first sea test of the image lander has been successfully carried out on 17 December 2010, at Horta Harbour, Faial.

A new equipment have been deployed on the Condor scientific observatory on 15 October 2010. It is an acoustic lander, a structure provided with an echo sounder, used to study the organisms in the water column.

Ana Filipa Carvalho, a student from the Department of Oceanography and Fisheries of the University of the Azores, was awarded the Best Poster at the ”5th ESA Earth Observation Summer School on Earth System Monitoring and Modelling", which took place at Frascati, Italy, in August 2010.

A scientific expedition to Condor seamount  took place from 5 to 8 August 2010, on board of “NRP Almirante Gago Coutinho”, operated by the Hydrographic Institute. The expedition was a success!

A one-week cruise on N/I NORUEGA  (INRB, National Institute of Biological Resources, Portugal) was undertaken on the Condor seamount, from 25 July to 1 August 2010.
