Fishing ban on the Condor Seamount

Condor3aThe Condor seamount will be temporarily closed to commercial bottom fisheries, from June 2010 to May 2012, specifically earmarked for scientific research.

This measure was agreed by scientists, local fishing community, and the Azores Regional Government.

The temporary fishing ban has been implemented to avoid damage and the lost of scientific equipment moored on the seamount, and to better interpret results about the dynamics of commercial fish populations.
